Join the fight! We need your support, together we can stop The Los Angeles Unified School District Board from passing a ruling that will require non-profit youth sports organizations to pay an hourly rate for the use of the fields, gyms and other school facilities that have been available to us for many years at no cost.

The effect of this ruling could be devastating. Most of the youth organizations operate on a shoestring, utilizing registration fees to barely cover the already high cost of operation. Equipment, insurance and all the other costs directly applicable to the athlete and his safety and well being are non-negotiable expenses that use up every penny of the fees. This additional, ill conceived, unnecessary expense could put some of us out of business. The result being thousands of young people will lose the opportunity to learn the basics of their chosen sport and lose the opportunity to spend their time in a safe environment rather than running the streets.

Those of us familiar with youth sports know that these organizations are manned by unpaid volunteers. Hundreds upon hundreds of men and women who volunteer their time to teach our young children the basics of several sports and most importantly provide healthy, safe venues for them to spend their after school hours learning and having fun.

Valley Youth Conference 2007 Championship

On a day that began in dense fog and concluded in colorful sunset, the 2007 Valley Youth Conference football divisional championships were decided at Canoga Park High School , traditionally, on the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving.

Sr. Clinic Division - South Valley Raiders 20 -  Northridge Knights 26
Gremlins Division - South Valley Raiders 21 - Reseda Buccaneers 7
Tiny Mite Division - Pasadena Ponies 6 - San Fernando Braves 13
Mity Mite Division - Pasadena Ponies 19 - Westside Bruins 14
Pee Wee Division - San Fernando Braves 27 - Northridge Knights 0
Midget Division - East Valley Trojans 16 - Crenshaw Cougars 22

Over a thousand fans witnessed part or all of the games where, once again, both young players and cheerleaders displayed the high caliber of competition that the VYC has attained through the cooperation of the young participants, their parents and the dedication of the volunteer coaches.
In a concerted effort to continue the conference's 45 years of volunteer service to the Greater Valley community, fans were encouraged to sign petitions asking that the LAUSD reverse its decision to start charging fees in 2008 for use of the publically-owned school facilities. The vast number of fans in attendance signed the petitions that appeal to the school board to realize that the non-profit conference simply does not have funds to pay over a thousand dollars a week for fees to use school practice fields and stadiums.

All Star High School Game  East 17 - West 24

D.J. Holt likes the feel of Birmingham High of Lake Balboa. The last time he set foot in the Patriots' football stadium, the Crespi of Encino standout recorded 16 tackles, knocked out one quarterback and scored on a 69-yard reception. So it was no wonder he dominated the East-West All-Star Game played at Birmingham on Sunday. Amidst a field of stars, Holt was a supernova. The 6-foot-1 do-everything receiver/defensive end is headed to Cal, but not before making one last major statement amongst his peers. Collecting four sacks, one fumble return for a touchdown and a crucial reception, Holt was named the game's MVP after leading his West team to a 23-17 overtime victory.
"This game means a lot. You want to show that you're the best in the Valley," Holt said. " We kept our heads up, and kept playing; it's never over until it's over."

East running back Fred Winborn (Grant of Van Nuys), heading to College of the Canyons next season, was his team's player of the game after scoring twice and gathering 45yards. Future Washington kicker Eric Folk (Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks) also made his mark, kicking an game record 57-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Hart quarterback Alex Pettee was the West's player of the game after connecting on a 25-yard game-winning touchdown with  Kyle Boas (Canoga Park) in overtime.

Pettee finished with 125yards passing and two scores. He engineered the 57-yard score-tying drive in just 20 seconds, capped by Michael Wendorf's touchdown catch from 7 yards out. Wendorf, of Granada  Hills, caught four balls during the drive. His score made it 17-15, and Holt caught a short pass for the two-point conversion.
The final few minutes may have been fireworks, but defense persisted like clockwork throughout. A windy stadium and stingy defensive linemen made it a nightmare day for quarterbacks. Birmingham's  James Beloff, who is heading to Minnesota State, completed 2 of 9 passes; Canyon's Ben Longshore threw three picks and Pettee added two. In all, the game featured nine turnovers and 21 penalties. Holt's 73-yard fumble return for a touchdown changed the game for the West. The East was firmly in control, 17-3, when Holt picked up a bad pitch from Longshore and broke away. Longshore, whose older brother Nate will be joined at Cal by Holt next year, could only shake his head about the play, and Holt in general. "He's an animal," Longshore said. "He's going to be good, no matter what position he plays
